How it works

The Sun comes from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory; the Moon from NASA's hourly phase visualization — at your baby's actual birth moment when you give a time, or their birth day otherwise. Both discs render at the same size because that's how they truly appear from Earth: the same half degree of sky, which is why eclipses work. For dates before 2010 the Sun uses a frame matched to that day's real solar activity, and the card says so — we never pass off imagery as something it isn't.
