About Cosmic Ascendant
Scientific astrology, built by astronomers. Real ephemeris data, honest uncertainty, and accuracy claims you can check — because an astrology app should earn trust the way science does: in public.
What Cosmic Ascendant Is
Cosmic Ascendant is a scientific astrology platform built by professional astronomers — people who study the origins, present day, and future of the universe as practicing scientists. We built it to bring real astronomical data and real methods to astrological practice, and to be honest about what the data can and cannot say.
A Custom Astronomical Engine
Most astrology apps license the same few third-party calculation libraries. Cosmic Ascendant runs on an engine we built from scratch on professional-grade JPL ephemeris data — the same planetary positions NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory uses for spacecraft navigation. The engine computes charts, transits, syzygies, retrograde stations, and solar and lunar eclipses directly from orbital mechanics, validated against the published astronomical canon to the minute.
Owning the engine makes features possible that licensed software can't offer: uncertainty-aware natal charts that quantify how birth time and location precision affect every placement, stability flags for borderline Rising signs, and a chart that knows the difference between an answer and a guess.
Honesty Is a Feature
If you don't know your birth time, your chart spans the whole day — and on some days that genuinely changes the answer. The Moon switches signs every couple of days; the Sun crosses a sign boundary once a month. When that happens, Cosmic Ascendant says “Cancer or Leo” instead of quietly picking one. The same rule runs through the Big Three quiz: when you reveal your real chart, we only score the placements your birth details can actually settle.
And we publish our accuracy. The Accuracy Experiment shows the quiz's live hit rate for Sun, Moon, and Rising against the 1-in-12 rate random guessing would score — updated as people reveal, kept on the page whether it flatters us or not.
Birth Zenith: NASA WISE Satellite Imagery
Birth Zenith generates a personalized image of the sky directly overhead at the moment and place of your birth, extracted from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) — a space telescope that mapped the entire sky in infrared light. Every significant object in your image — stars, galaxies, nebulae, clusters — is identified and cataloged, with scientific classifications and astrological interpretations for each. No other astrology platform offers personalized satellite imagery of your birth sky.
The Sky, Computed in Public
The sky calendar answers the questions people actually ask — is Mercury retrograde right now, when is the next full moon, when is the next eclipse — from the same engine that builds the charts. Retrograde pages play the full loop on a real zodiac wheel, station by station, with the Sun riding along for reference. Every date on those pages is computed from orbital mechanics, not copied from an almanac.
Compatibility, from Real Geometry
The compatibility library covers all 78 sign pairings, each with the pair's actual geometry — the aspect their Suns form, element and modality dynamics — rendered on the same chart the app uses everywhere. For real people rather than archetypes, Pairs computes full synastry between two charts, and Circles lets friends compare charts and readings together.
Readings Written from Computed Geometry
Every reading starts from your specific chart data and the actual transits overhead — computed first, written second. Natal interpretations, daily, weekly, and monthly readings, and birth zenith analyses are generated uniquely for you from that geometry, not selected from a database of pre-written text.
Interactive Chart Builder
The chart builder teaches how each piece of birth information shapes your natal chart, with animated uncertainty arcs that narrow as you add your birth year, month, day, time, and place — a visual demonstration of why birth time precision matters.

Our Mission
We believe astrology deserves the same rigor astronomers bring to studying the universe. That means real ephemeris data instead of licensed lookup tables, honest uncertainty instead of false precision, and published accuracy instead of testimonials. When the data can't settle an answer, we say so — and when it can, we show our work.
